As a committee under the Elections Department, the Voting Accessibility Advisory Committee (VAAC) is responsible for making recommendations for improving access to voting and election materials.

The VAAC is designed to advise, assist, and provide recommendations to the Elections Department as to how voters with disabilities can vote independently and privately. The County’s VAAC members have been influential in assisting with numerous projects, including the production of Election Administration Plan (EAP) for the Voter’s Choice Act (VCA) Guidelines. They have helped raise awareness of disability issues through their community involvement and production of the Poll Worker Accessibility Training.

VAAC Meetings

Meetings are held quarterly on the last Tuesday of March, June, September and December  at 3:00pm through Microsoft Teams. The meetings are held in English with Spanish translation and American Sign Language Interpretation on standby. Email SBCVOTE@sanbenitocountyca.gov or call 831-636-4016 for the meeting information.

Voting Accessibility Advisory Committee Special Meeting

  • Date: 04/11/2023 3:00 PM - 3:59 PM

Special Meeting

To give additional time to review material, we will have a special meeting on April 11th at 3 p.m. (please find the Zoom link below) to go over the Election Administration Plan requirements.

As requested, attached is a scanned copy of the 1st postcard and a digital copy of the 2nd postcard (front and back) – These are samples of voter direct contact that is mailed before every election.

The following are questions we will revisit during the April 11th meeting:

  1. Are all Vote Centers properly equipped with voting accessibility needs?
  2. Are all 6 drop boxes accessible to all voters?
  3. Are all outreach materials such as postcards accessible to all voters?
  4. Are there other events targeted to people with disabilities in the community you recommend?
  5. Do we cover all the necessary information for voters to decide on their preferred method of voting?
